Our school culture is strongly student-centred with prime focus on holistic development. The needs of young people continually evolve and our curriculum reflects both current and future student requirements. The school currently has 1400 boys enrolled, made up of vital young men from Whangārei District.
WBHS has a dedicated and supportive International Team to ensure boys from all over the world enjoy the best Northland has to offer, with both long term and short stay options. Our Golf Academy set us apart from other schools in the region.
First of all I have to say that I really enjoyed being part of the school. I studied for three terms and it was a great experience. I had different subjects than in Germany where I can’t choose my subjects like here in New Zealand. It was a really good experience to be at a Boy’s school. It is different than in Germany where I go to a Co-Ed school.
When I came here on my first day I got picked up from my host mom and two hockey players who became two of my most important friends in New Zealand.
I still kept in contact with the other internationals and we did some great trips together. My highlight trip with the internationals was the overnight trip to Rotorua. This was so
much fun.

Whangārei Boys’ High School welcomes between 10 and 15 international students every year from all around the world.
We offer long term and short stay options, with sporting and outdoor education programmes such as golf, scuba diving and surfing, along with ESOL classes and a wide range of academic classes. Our Golf Academy sets us apart from other schools in the region.
Our students are looked after by a dedicated and supportive International Team to ensure they enjoy the best Northland has to offer.
In addition, we value our robust relationships with the wider community and take pride in our richly diverse school community. We are fortunate to enjoy high levels of parent-community engagement. Their support encourages all our students to succeed. In partnership with our students and whānau, we are honoured to support the successful advancement of our valued fine young men through Whangārei Boys’ High School.
I came to WBHS with some other Japanese students as part of a group from Otani High School which is my Japanese school. I made some friends, they were my first foreign friends and I had a very good time in New Zealand.
There is no class such as Outdoor Education in Japan so that was a new experience and it was fun. I had a surfing trip and that was my first time to surf so that was a really nice experience and my English started to improve.
However, I think the international trip to Rotorua was the best thing. I loved the hot springs! Leo and I did the Big Swing at the Skyline. That was really scary.
We also went to The Hobbiton Movie Set – that was a very nice place to go. After I went there I watched all the Hobbit movies with my host mother. This was a really fun thing to do.
Now in Term 3, my English is really growing and I have made some more friends and that has made me enjoy going to school.

Sports, Activities & Trips
Whangārei Boys’ High School has first-class sporting facilities.
Summer sporting facilities include our in-situ full size swimming pool, six tennis courts, and two cricket pitches (grass and artificial).
Winter sports facilities include two rugby fields and a football field in a magnificent park-like setting. Also available are two well-equipped gymnasia for Badminton, Basketball, Futsal, Table Tennis and Volleyball, plus a well-equipped weight-training room.
Regular Saturday competitions and a variety of inter-school exchange opportunities exist across a range of sports. Besides the major sports, boys are able to participate in many other activities.

Our Fees include the consultation beforehand, school choice, assistance with all paperwork and visa application, preparation for time abroad. Pick up on arrival. Transfer to family or domestic flight depending on destination and support during entire stay in New Zealand for student and family. Airport drop off or check in support in Auckland for departure to home country depending on departure situation. We also offer orientation and farewell camps for our students on arrival and departure. Health Insurance is compulsory and can be taken out through StudyNZ with Unicare under our Master policy
