NTA provides New Zealand and international students with training and education that leads to New Zealand qualifications in English Language and a range of land based industries including; Agriculture, Equine, Horticulture, Rural Technician and Animal Care.
We offer international students English language courses and tuition which can include unique New Zealand experiences, such as English & Horse Riding, English & Rugby and English & Agriculture.
Our Training Centre offers specialist purpose-built facilities to ensure you receive quality, professional training. Located just ten minutes from Christchurch allows our students access to practical training on the land, with the option of living in a metropolitan area. The National Trade Academy is based on 70 hectares at McLeans Island. All students are involved in the day to day running and development of the farm and riding school. On-site we have classrooms, a forestry block, horticulture gardens, glasshouse, shadehouse, tool sheds, irrigated pastures, student common room, cafe, farm animals, sand ‘all-weather’ riding arenas, stables and yards. Everything you expect from a top quality, land-based training facility is conveniently all on one site.
Our experience at NTA was very useful, because it helped us and introduced us to New Zealand’s work system. We learnt about Kiwi culture and new farming technologies. Our experiences on dairy farms were quite different, depending on the person, but positive in general. NTA helped us to quickly get used to work and life here in New Zealand. We did it easily because most of the tasks we performed on the farm we had practised at NTA during our course. Muchas gracias!

What makes us unique?
1) Combination of theory and practical training gives students the very best opportunity to gain the skills and knowledge they require in order to be employed in their chosen sector.
2) Trained and experienced tutors with small classes, ensure that students receive quality agriculture and equine training. All our tutors have relevant qualifications and experience in the industries they are training students for.
3) We are a first point of call for many employers seeking staff for their businesses. Due to the growth in the land based industry sectors, especially the dairy sector, we have seen an increase in demand for employees with a range of pre-employment skills.
4) Innovative range of courses. The National Trade Academy has been the winner of the Education New Zealand award for ‘Innovation in an International Programme Award’.
I really enjoy working with horses and these courses give me the opportunity to do what I love and earn money at the same time. It’s practical and the theory components give me the knowledge I need to succeed in a career in the equine industries.
