Mount Maunganui Language Centre is a small school with few students per class, guaranteeing personal attention.

With a great nationality mix and a location in the centre of a beach resort, Mount Maunganui Language Centre is a great place to study English.

Our teachers are fully qualified and experienced in modern teaching methods. Their lessons are very practical. Our small class size means that students improve their speaking and communication skills quickly. Each student will receive personal attention for any special needs. We have counsellors available who are native speakers of many different languages. They are happy to help students when they have a problem.

Our students are from all over the world, including the following countries:
Japan, Switzerland, Korea, Thailand, New Caledonia, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Taiwan, Russia, Tahiti, Vietnam, China, Germany, Italy, Spain, Chile, and the Czech Republic.
The ratio of nationalities varies according to the time of year, but generally our classes have a good mix.
Our students ages range from 14 to 70. The average age is 22.

Mount Maunganui Language Centre is a Category 1 school, so students who have a student visa and study 14 weeks or more are allowed to work part-time during their course.

A really friendly place, people from around the world and classes were fantastic, I learnt so much here.

What we offer

Our lessons are based on communication, and cover all areas of English – Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening, Grammar, and Pronunciation. Our teachers are professionals, who have a lot of teaching experience and they work hard to make lessons interesting and useful for you.

General English Courses
We have courses for elementary, lower-intermediate, intermediate and upper level students.
If you are a complete beginner you may need to take some one-on-one courses before joining the group lesson.
General English courses start on any Monday and are available for any length from two weeks up to one year.

Examination Preparation Classes
We offer high-level, intensive courses for students who want to take an examination. These courses offer a highly-structured programme of study, resulting in excellent exam results, which can be used to gain entry into University and other higher learning institutions. Students who take the 12 week FCE course have consistently achieved scores within the top 10% of all candidates in New Zealand.

Academic
We work closely with local schools to prepare students to settle easily into the New Zealand classroom situation and adapt to a method of study that may be new to them. We have found that our students achieve good results because they have gained confidence in a more sheltered environment.

Working Holiday Programme
This course is designed for students who come to New Zealand on a working holiday visa.
This course includes 4 weeks Full-Time General English tuition, as well as the following:
Four one-hour “Working in New Zealand” information sessions. These sessions include information on tax, minimum wages, where to look for a job and tips for job interviews as well as other topics. These sessions are one on one to ensure you get maximum contact time with the teacher.
FREE resume preparation. We will create a professional-standard resume in English for you to show prospective employers.
Local knowledge. Often jobs that come up are not advertised publicly, but passed on by word-of-mouth. Our staff have an extensive knowledge of the local area and can pass on these valuable job-finding tips to Working Holiday students.
Job search assistance. We help students find the best resources for looking for work, including local publications, job search agencies, as well as employment websites.

English + Activity
In these courses students will learn English while learning to surf, improving their golf game or going on organised excursions.
